Assi Ghat
Assi is the southernmost Ghat in Varanasi. Assi Ghat is today one of the most prominent Ghat and thousands of Hindus visit in this Ghat on occasion like Dussehra, Makar Sankranti etc. At this ghat, a huge shiva lingam is situated under the peepal tree. This ghat has been also described the ancient Hindu literatures such as in the Matsyapurana, Kurmapurana and kasha khanda as well. Dashashwamedh Ghat
Dashashwamedh Ghat is the heart of Varanasi. This gaht was reconstructed by the bajiraopesava in the year 1774. This ghat is famous for Agni Pooja which is held here daily in the evening by the priest which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and River Ganga and the meaning of Dashashwamedh Ghat, 10 sacrificed horses. It also belived that the 10 horses sacrifice was done by the Bharashiva. There are many Ghats around this ghat which is easy to know about them. Manikarnika Ghat
Manikarnika Ghat is the most confronting Ghat. It is place where the majority of dead bodies are cremated in Varanasi. Manikarnika Ghat is considered to be one of the holiest Ghat in India and it is believed that if the dead body of a person cremated here, then the dead human soul finds Moksha. This Ghat was built by Lords Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology Lord Shiva along with Parvati came to Varanasi before Vishnu grant him his wish. Man Mandir Ghat
Man Mandir Ghat is a Ghat on the banks of River Ganga in Varanasi. This Ghat was built by Maharaja Man Singh. This Ghat is a major tourist attraction in itself. This Ghat is also dotted with several Hindu temples including Rameshwara Temple Sthuladanta Vinayak Temple and Someshwara Temple. This has fine balcony at the north end of the Ghat. Chet Singh Ghat
Chet Singh Gaht was the site of the 18th century battle between Maharaja Chet singh who ruled in Varanasi. This Ghat is also known as Khirki Ghat and this Ghat is now divided into four parts such as Niranjani Ghat, Nirvani Ghat and Shivala Ghat. This ghat is fortified Ghat and has imprints and memories of India’s freedom struggle. The famous BudhwaMangal festival which is celebrated for seven days is organized here.
